My Favorite Home Products for Accessibility

Living with a disability means finding those little tools and gadgets that make daily life a bit smoother. Over the years, my home has become a treasure trove of accessibility-friendly products that bring convenience, comfort, and independence. Whether it's automating a task or making a space more functional, these products have been game changers. Here are my top picks that you might just love too!

1. Innovia Touchless Paper Towel Dispenser

Paper towels out of reach is a real bummer for me sometimes. When I saw this, I was so excited! This touchless dispenser is one of those things you didn’t know you needed until you get one. We have ours sitting on the counter, but you can also mount it under the cabinet. It dispenses the exact amount of paper towels with just a wave of your hand. For someone with limited mobility or strength, this has been a lifesaver—plus, it feels futuristic and fancy.

2. Under Counter Drawers

I recently ordered these because my makeup area looked like a continued disaster zone. These drawers easily stuck under my counter and now allow me to keep items within reach and keep my counter clean. It sticks to any flat surface and gives you an easy-to-access space to stash items like remotes, phones, or chargers. They also have ribbed plastic fronts so it brings enough "fancy" to my bathroom.

3. Bathroom Sink with Temperature Display and Sprayer

This bathroom sink is something I show every single person that comes in my house looking for a tour. When did I get old and a bathroom sink is super exciting to me? My favorite features include the LED temperature screen, the faucet rotates back and forth, and the handle is on the side so we could mount it sideways for easy reach. The faucet also comes off with a hose so Jordan can easily wash his hair in the sink every morning. The last fun feature is that a water fountain is built into it! I can't reach it myself, but I think it's such a cool feature!

4. Kasa Smart Light Switches

Flipping a switch might seem like a simple task, but when mobility is a challenge, smart switches can be a game changer. This Kasa Smart Light Switch connects to Alexa or Google Assistant, letting you control the lights with your voice or phone. No more struggling to reach for switches; just ask, and it’s done. It’s accessibility with a side of tech-savvy cool. We installed them for every single switch in our house.

5. Convertible Chair

We often have two caregivers that stay overnight with us and we don't have an extra room for them to hangout in. We got this chair that condenses pretty small for when they are not here, but also unfolds into a long bed and can also have a raised back. It's not the most ideal, but for the space we have, it's perfect!

6. Threshold Ramp

Our sliding door to our deck has a bit of a lip that made getting in and out hard. This Ruedamann wheelchair ramp is both functional and stylish with its dark wood grain finish, blending in beautifully with my home decor. It’s lightweight and easy to set up, providing seamless access to the patio. We have one on the inside and outside.

7.  Electric Envelope Opener

Opening mail can be a hassle. This electric envelope opener takes all the effort out of the process. It’s fast, efficient, and dare I say… fun to use? I have no idea why I never thought of it sooner!

I'm sure we have more around here that I missed, but if you have a disability, hopefully these inspire you to make your home a little more friendly!
